Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nipecotic acid is a small molecule and piperidinemonocarboxylic acid that acts as a potent inhibitor of neuronal and glial gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) uptake. It is widely used in scientific research to study GABAergic neurotransmission but has very little to no blood-brain barrier penetration itself. Structural modifications or prodrugs of nipecotic acid have been explored to improve its brain penetration for potential therapeutic applications in neurological disorders such as epilepsy and anxiety[3][4][7].
