Overview
Niperotidine is a small molecule drug classified as a histamine H2-receptor antagonist, structurally related to ranitidine. It was developed for the treatment of peptic ulcer disease and other gastrointestinal conditions associated with excessive gastric acid secretion. Like other H2 blockers, niperotidine works by competitively inhibiting the action of histamine at the H2 receptors of parietal cells in the stomach, thereby reducing gastric acid output. Niperotidine was investigated as an alternative to existing H2 antagonists but was withdrawn from development due to reports of acute liver injury and hepatitis in patients[6][7][9].
