Overview

Nisoxetine is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) developed in the 1970s by Eli Lilly. It was originally investigated as an antidepressant but has no current clinical applications and is now used primarily as a research standard for studying the norepinephrine transporter. Nisoxetine is highly selective for inhibiting norepinephrine uptake over serotonin and dopamine uptake. It has been used in preclinical studies to investigate obesity and energy balance and exhibits some local analgesic effects[1][2][4].
