Nitargal

Nitargal is a pharmaceutical substance developed by UNITEHPROM at the Belarusian State University (BSU). It is a coordination complex consisting of silver ions and the amino acid L-arginine. The substance is primarily utilized as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for the production of medicinal products with dual therapeutic profiles. Due to the presence of silver, it exhibits broad-spectrum antimicrobial and antiseptic properties, making it effective for wound healing and the treatment of purulent-inflammatory conditions. Additionally, Nitargal serves as a nitric oxide (NO) donor; the arginine component acts as a precursor for NO production, which induces vasodilation. This mechanism has led to its investigation and application in cardiovascular medicine for the treatment of conditions such as angina pectoris and hypertension.
