Nitrate-depleted beetroot juice is a research-grade placebo used in clinical trials to evaluate the physiological effects of dietary inorganic nitrate. It is produced by removing the majority of inorganic nitrate (NO3−) from beetroot juice, typically reducing levels from approximately 300–400 mg to about 40 mg per 70 mL serving.
