Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Beyond Air's investigational therapy for nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung infections utilizes the proprietary LungFit GO system to generate and deliver high concentrations (150-400 ppm) of gaseous nitric oxide (NO) from ambient air. Nitric oxide is a naturally occurring molecule with potent, broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties. In the context of NTM, it acts directly on pathogens such as Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) and Mycobacterium abscessus complex (MABSC) to reduce microbial load by inducing oxidative and nitrosative stress. The therapy is designed for self-administration at home, providing a potential treatment for patients with chronic refractory NTM lung disease, including those with cystic fibrosis. The LungFit GO system eliminates the need for heavy, high-pressure gas cylinders, facilitating long-term intermittent treatment in a home setting.
