Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nitric oxide nanoparticles (also known as nitric oxide-releasing nanoparticles) is a topical therapeutic formulation being developed by Enogenesis for the treatment of acne. Utilizing Enogenesis's proprietary nitric oxide delivery platform, these nanoparticles are designed to provide sustained and controlled release of nitric oxide (NO) directly to the skin. Nitric oxide acts as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent that targets acne-causing bacteria, such as *Cutibacterium acnes* (formerly *Propionibacterium acnes*), and inhibits the bacteria-stimulated inflammatory cascade. This dual antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory mechanism helps clear the infection and reduce acne-related inflammation with minimal toxicity to surrounding keratinocytes.
