Nitric oxide patch

This nitric oxide-releasing patch is a topical therapeutic developed by the Fundación Cardiovascular de Colombia (FCV) for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). Nitric oxide (NO) is a critical signaling molecule in the wound-healing process, where it acts as a potent vasodilator to improve local microcirculation and oxygen delivery to ischemic tissues. Additionally, NO exhibits broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties, helping to control infection in chronic wounds, and stimulates the proliferation of fibroblasts and keratinocytes while promoting angiogenesis through the activation of soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC). The PATHON trial (NCT02498509) was a Phase 3, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study that evaluated the efficacy of this patch in accelerating the closure of chronic ulcers in diabetic patients.
