Overview
Nitric Oxide Releasing Mouthwash (NORM) is a topical antimicrobial therapeutic being developed by SaNOtize Research and Development Corp. for the treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis (oral thrush). The drug utilizes SaNOtize's proprietary Nitric Oxide Releasing Solution (NORS) platform technology to deliver nitric oxide directly to the site of infection. Nitric oxide acts as a potent, broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent by functioning as a free radical that induces oxidative and nitrosative stress. This mechanism leads to the disruption of fungal cell membranes, damage to genomic DNA, and the inactivation of critical metabolic enzymes, effectively killing pathogens such as *Candida albicans*. NORM is currently in Phase 1 clinical development as a gargle solution for patients with oral fungal infections, including those with concurrent xerostomia (dry mouth).
