Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nitric oxide-releasing solution is a proprietary platform technology developed to deliver nitric oxide (NO) in a controlled and effective manner for therapeutic purposes. Nitric oxide is a naturally occurring molecule with broad antimicrobial properties, including antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral effects. The technology enables the delivery of NO via various formulations such as sprays, gels, creams, baths, and lavages. The primary mechanism of action involves the local release of NO at the site of application or infection to exert direct antimicrobial activity by disrupting microbial cell membranes and modulating host immune responses. This approach has been investigated for prevention and treatment of upper respiratory tract infections (including COVID-19), topical infections, and other conditions where localized NO delivery may be beneficial[6]. SaNOtize's Nitric Oxide Releasing Solution (NORS) platform is one example that has gained regulatory approval in some countries for use as an antiviral nasal spray.
