Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nitrizinc Complex (marketed under the brand name Verrutop) is a topical solution developed by ISDIN for the treatment of difficult-to-treat warts, including cutaneous, palmoplantar, periungual, and anogenital warts (condylomata acuminata). It is formulated as a combination of organic acids (lactic, oxalic, and acetic acids), nitric acid, and copper and zinc salts. Upon topical application, Nitrizinc Complex induces a painless chemical reaction that leads to the mummification (dehydration and denaturation) of the pathological tissue, causing the lesion to change color and eventually detach spontaneously as healthy skin forms. It also exerts an antiviral effect by reducing viral DNA in the treated tissue. Nitrizinc Complex has also been investigated for the treatment of other benign skin lesions, such as seborrheic keratosis.
