Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nitronesin (MAP-0001) is a small molecule neuroprotective agent developed by Guangzhou Magpie Pharmaceutical for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Chemically, it is a nitrone derivative of tetramethylpyrazine (TMP), a compound traditionally used in Chinese medicine for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Nitronesin is designed to act as a potent free radical scavenger, mitigating the oxidative stress and reperfusion injury that occur following an ischemic event. By neutralizing reactive oxygen species (ROS), it aims to protect neuronal tissue and improve clinical outcomes in patients. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in China, specifically targeting adults within a 6-hour window of their last known well time.
