Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nitrophage is a synbiotic nutraceutical product developed by Mylin Biotech (Mylin Holdings) for the management of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and various gastrointestinal disorders. It is formulated as an oral granule or sachet containing a combination of probiotic strains, specifically *Bifidobacterium bifidum* (4 billion spores) and *Lactobacillus acidophilus*, paired with the prebiotic fructooligosaccharides (FOS), providing a total of 15 billion CFU. The product is designed to modulate the gut microbiome and reduce systemic inflammatory markers, including interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP). A higher-strength version, Nitrophage Forte, is marketed as a solution for CKD patients undergoing dialysis, with clinical evidence supporting its use in reducing uremic pruritus and improving cardiovascular lipid markers such as HDL, LDL, and triglycerides.
