Overview

Nitrosoethane (EtNO) is a small organic nitroso compound. It has been identified as a product formed during the photolysis of solid nitromethane. Nitrosoethane is known for its ability to interact with heme proteins, such as ferrous horse heart myoglobin, forming stable adducts. Structural studies have revealed that the nitroso oxygen atom of the EtNO ligand forms a hydrogen bond with the imidazole N(epsilon) atom of the distal His64 residue within the myoglobin structure.
