Overview
Nitrosyl-cobinamide (NO-Cbi) is a novel, direct nitric oxide (NO)-releasing agent and vitamin B12 analog developed by researchers at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Unlike organic nitrates, nitrosyl-cobinamide releases NO directly without requiring enzymatic biotransformation or generating reactive oxygen species. It acts by stimulating the soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC) and cyclic GMP (cGMP)/protein kinase G (PKG) signaling pathway. Nitrosyl-cobinamide is being investigated for its therapeutic potential in treating glucocorticoid-induced osteosarcopenia, osteoporosis, hypertension, heart disease, and wound healing.
