Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Niu Shi Wenjing Decoction is a specialized Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by the Taizhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, specifically associated with the clinical experience of Dr. Niu Shuying. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA), particularly cases characterized by the 'Cold-Dampness Obstruction' or 'Yang Deficiency' patterns in TCM theory. The decoction aims to warm the meridians, disperse cold, nourish blood, and relieve pain. Pharmacologically, it has been shown to reduce the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) in the synovial fluid and serum of patients. Furthermore, it is thought to inhibit the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), such as MMP-3 and MMP-13, thereby protecting articular cartilage from degradation. The formula typically comprises a combination of botanical ingredients including *Radix Aconiti Lateralis Praeparata*, *Cinnamomi Ramulus*, and *Radix Angelicae Sinensis*.
