Overview
Niubang Pill, also known as Jia Wei Niu Bang Zi Pill (NBZP), is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation that has been used in China for centuries to treat inflammatory conditions, particularly rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The primary component of the formula is *Niu Bang Zi* (Arctium lappa L., or burdock fruit), which is traditionally combined with other herbs to synergistically relieve pain and prevent joint degradation. The therapeutic effects are attributed to bioactive lignans such as arctigenin and arctiin, which exhibit potent anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties. Clinical research has focused on the efficacy of NBZP as an adjunctive therapy with methotrexate (MTX) to improve American College of Rheumatology (ACR) response rates and reduce Disease Activity Scores (DAS28) in patients with active RA.
