Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Niuhuang Jiedu Wan is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula widely used for its antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and detoxifying properties. The formulation is traditionally indicated for "toxic heat" syndrome, which manifests as symptoms such as sore throat, acute tonsillitis, gingivitis, mouth ulcers, and constipation. It typically consists of eight herbal and mineral ingredients, including Calculus Bovis (Niuhuang), Realgar (Xionghuang), and Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang). The formula is available in various dosage forms, most commonly as honeyed or water-honeyed pills (Wan) and tablets (Pian). Due to the presence of Realgar, which contains arsenic sulfide, the drug is generally recommended for short-term use under medical supervision to avoid potential toxicity.
