Overview
Niuhuang Qingxin Wan (NHQXW) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula widely used for the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. It is a multi-ingredient botanical product containing active compounds such as liquiritin and paeoniflorin. The formula is primarily indicated for the treatment of stroke and its sequelae, as well as for managing symptoms of depression and anxiety. Mechanistically, NHQXW has been shown to modulate the BDNF/TrkB/ERK/CREB signaling pathway, which promotes hippocampal neurogenesis and provides neuroprotective effects. It is manufactured by several companies, most notably Beijing Tong Ren Tang and Jianmin Pharmaceutical Group.
