Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Innotox is a liquid formulation of botulinum toxin type A developed by Medytox. It is the world's first ready-to-use liquid botulinum toxin, eliminating the need for reconstitution with saline, which is required for traditional lyophilized powder formulations like Botox. This liquid format reduces the risk of dosing errors and contamination during preparation. Innotox is formulated without human serum albumin or animal-derived proteins, instead using polysorbate 20 and L-methionine as stabilizers. Its mechanism of action involves the cleavage of SNAP-25, a SNARE protein essential for the fusion of acetylcholine-containing vesicles with the presynaptic membrane at the neuromuscular junction. By preventing acetylcholine release, Innotox induces temporary muscle paralysis, making it effective for treating moderate to severe glabellar lines and other neuromuscular conditions.
