Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nivolumab is a monoclonal antibody that targets the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor, blocking its interaction with PD-L1 and PD-L2. This action enhances T-cell mediated immune responses against tumor cells. When used in combination with chemotherapy, nivolumab has demonstrated improved efficacy in several cancers compared to chemotherapy alone. The combination is approved for use in advanced or metastatic gastric cancer, gastroesophageal junction cancer, esophageal adenocarcinoma, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and urothelial carcinoma, among others. Nivolumab was developed by Bristol Myers Squibb and is marketed under the brand name Opdivo[1][2][3][4][5].
