Overview

Nivolumab + lirilumab is a combination of two monoclonal antibodies used in cancer immunotherapy. Nivolumab is an immune checkpoint inhibitor that targets the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor on T cells, blocking its interaction with PD-L1 and PD-L2 ligands, thereby enhancing T-cell-mediated anti-tumor responses[3][8]. Lirilumab targets killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIRs) on natural killer (NK) cells, blocking inhibitory signals from HLA-C ligands and promoting NK cell activation and tumor cell killing[6]. This combination has been investigated in clinical trials for squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, showing enhanced objective response rates compared to nivolumab alone[5]. Nivolumab was developed by Bristol Myers Squibb; lirilumab was developed by Innate Pharma.
