Overview
Nivolumab + platinum-based chemotherapy is a combination regimen used primarily for the neoadjuvant treatment of resectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Nivolumab is a monoclonal antibody that targets the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor on T cells, blocking its interaction with PD-L1 and PD-L2 ligands. This blockade prevents tumor cells from evading immune detection, thereby enhancing T-cell mediated anti-tumor activity. Platinum-based chemotherapies, such as cisplatin or carboplatin combined with another cytotoxic agent, induce DNA damage in rapidly dividing cancer cells leading to apoptosis. The combination leverages both immune checkpoint inhibition and direct cytotoxic effects to improve event-free survival in patients with early-stage NSCLC[4][5][6][8].
