Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nizaracianine triflutate (also known as ZW800-1) is a zwitterionic near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent contrast agent developed by Curadel Surgical Innovations (now Curadel Pharma) for intraoperative ureter visualization. Invented by Dr. John V. Frangioni at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the agent is part of the FLARE® technology platform. It is designed to be administered intravenously, where it is rapidly cleared by the kidneys and concentrated in the ureters. This allows surgeons to identify and avoid the ureters during complex abdominopelvic, gynecologic, and oncologic surgeries using NIR imaging systems, thereby reducing the incidence of accidental ureteral injury. The zwitterionic nature of the molecule is intended to minimize non-specific binding and provide a high signal-to-background ratio.
