Overview

This investigational combination cellular immunotherapy consists of intravenous natural killer (NK) cells and intrathecal amniotic epithelial cells. Developed by The Second Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University in collaboration with Shanghai iCELL Biotechnology, the therapy is being evaluated for the treatment of HTLV-1 associated myelopathy (HAM), a chronic progressive spinal cord disease caused by human T-lymphotropic virus type 1. The treatment strategy utilizes the innate anti-viral activity of NK cells to target and eliminate HTLV-1 infected cells, while the amniotic epithelial cells are intended to provide immunomodulatory and potentially neuroprotective effects within the spinal cord environment to mitigate the associated inflammatory response.
