Overview

NK211 is an investigational antineoplastic agent consisting of a polymeric micelle formulation of cisplatin. Developed by Nippon Kayaku in collaboration with NanoCarrier (where it is known as NC-6004), the drug is designed to optimize the delivery of cisplatin to tumor cells. The micellar structure, typically composed of block copolymers like methoxy-polyethylene glycol and poly(glutamic acid), allows for a controlled release of the platinum payload. This formulation aims to exploit the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect to increase intratumoral drug concentrations while minimizing the severe systemic side effects associated with conventional cisplatin, such as nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, and neurotoxicity. NK211 is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for the treatment of relapsed ovarian cancer.
