NKAE cells

NKAE cells (Natural Killer activated and expanded cells) are a cellular immunotherapy product composed of natural killer (NK) cells that have been isolated from donor or patient blood, then activated and expanded ex vivo to increase their number and cytotoxic activity. These cells are reinfused into patients to enhance immune-mediated destruction of tumor cells or virally infected cells. NKAE therapy seeks to overcome deficiencies in endogenous NK cell function commonly seen in cancer and other diseases. NKAE cells exert their effect via recognition and killing of aberrant cells through a combination of activating and inhibitory receptor signaling, without the need for prior antigen sensitization. Therapeutic applications are being investigated primarily in oncology (such as hematologic malignancies and solid tumors), and other diseases where enhanced innate immunity is beneficial. Developers are often academic centers, biotechs, or hospital cell therapy facilities, and multiple commercial and academic programs exist globally.
