Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NKTR-119 is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) product candidate consisting of naloxegol (NKTR-118) and an opioid analgesic. Naloxegol is a peripherally-acting mu-opioid receptor antagonist (PAMORA) developed using Nektar's proprietary PEGylation technology, which prevents the drug from crossing the blood-brain barrier. By combining naloxegol with an opioid, NKTR-119 aims to provide effective analgesia while proactively managing opioid-induced constipation (OIC) by blocking mu-opioid receptors in the gastrointestinal tract. The program was licensed to AstraZeneca by Nektar Therapeutics in 2009 as part of a broader agreement that included the development and commercialization of Movantik (naloxegol).
