NL002

NL002 is a modified recombinant human interleukin-11 (rhIL-11) developed by Beijing Northland Biopharmaceutical for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia (CIT). As a thrombopoietic growth factor, it binds to the interleukin-11 receptor (IL-11R) complex, which includes the gp130 signal transducer, to activate downstream signaling pathways that stimulate the proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells and megakaryocyte progenitor cells. This process ultimately leads to increased platelet production. NL002 is a structural modification of wild-type IL-11, engineered to optimize biological activity and potentially improve the safety profile compared to first-generation rhIL-11 (oprelvekin), which is often limited by side effects such as fluid retention and cardiovascular issues. The drug is currently in Phase 3 clinical development in China.
