Overview

NM002 is a proprietary intravenous (IV) formulation of cysteamine bitartrate developed by NovaBiotics. It is a small molecule aminothiol with dual immunomodulatory (anti-inflammatory) and antimicrobial (antiviral and antibacterial) properties. NM002 acts as an immunomodulator-antimicrobial, targeting both the infectious cause and the inflammatory consequences of diseases such as community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), including cases caused by COVID-19 and drug-resistant bacteria. Its mechanism involves modulation of immune responses—particularly targeting interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interferons—and potentiation of standard-of-care antibiotics against resistant pathogens. The drug is currently being evaluated in a global Phase 3 clinical trial for CAP under the REMAP-CAP platform[1][2][3][4][5][7][8].
