NMK89 is a humanized monoclonal antibody radiolabeled with zirconium-89 (a positron-emitting radionuclide), designed for use as a diagnostic imaging agent in cancer theranostics. It specifically targets MUC5AC, a mucin protein that is overexpressed in pancreatic cancer and several other malignancies including liver, colon, gastric, and lung cancers. By binding to MUC5AC-expressing tumors and being detectable via PET/CT imaging due to the zirconium-89 label, NMK89 enables visualization of tumor burden and metastases. The drug is being developed primarily for improved detection and monitoring of pancreatic cancer but may have broader applications in other MUC5AC-positive cancers. Preclinical studies have demonstrated high tumor specificity with low non-specific uptake in normal tissues[1][2][3][4][5].
