Overview

NmVac4-DT is a quadrivalent conjugate vaccine candidate developed by the Finlay Institute of Vaccines (Instituto Finlay de Vacunas) in Cuba for the prevention of invasive meningococcal disease. It targets *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y. The vaccine utilizes capsular polysaccharides from each of the four serogroups, which are individually conjugated to a diphtheria toxoid (DT) carrier protein. This conjugation process is designed to elicit a T-cell dependent immune response, which is more robust and provides longer-lasting protection compared to pure polysaccharide vaccines, especially in young children. The development of NmVac4-DT aims to provide an affordable and effective alternative for controlling meningococcal outbreaks and endemic disease in regions such as the African meningitis belt and Latin America.
