Overview

NMX2 is a novel, orally available small molecule drug candidate developed by NovoMedix for the treatment of fibrosis and metabolic diseases. It acts through dual mechanisms as an activator of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and an inhibitor of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), as well as inhibiting interleukin-11 (IL-11) and pro-inflammatory cytokine production. Preclinical studies have shown that NMX2 prevents and reverses established fibrosis and inflammation in models of lung and liver fibrosis, improves glucose homeostasis, reduces adiposity, lowers body weight in diabetic mice, and protects cardiomyocytes against ischemic injury. The drug has demonstrated synergistic effects with existing antifibrotic agents such as Esbriet and OFEV. NMX2 is currently in preclinical development.
