NN344

NN344 is an experimental, long-acting (basal) insulin analogue developed by Novo Nordisk for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Similar to insulin detemir, NN344 is designed to bind reversibly to albumin, which serves as a circulating depot to prolong its half-life and duration of action. In clinical studies involving patients with type 2 diabetes, NN344 demonstrated a time-action profile and metabolic effect comparable to insulin glargine and insulin detemir, but with significantly lower within-subject variability. This improved predictability was intended to provide more stable glycemic control and potentially reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. However, the development of NN344 appears to have been discontinued in favor of other long-acting insulin candidates in the Novo Nordisk pipeline, such as insulin degludec (NN1250).
