Overview

NNC109-0012 is a human monoclonal antibody that targets interleukin-20 (IL-20), a cytokine belonging to the IL-10 family that plays a role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases. Developed by Novo Nordisk, NNC109-0012 was primarily evaluated for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and plaque psoriasis. The mechanism of action involves binding to and neutralizing circulating IL-20, thereby preventing its interaction with the IL-20 receptor subunits (IL-20R1, IL-20R2, and IL-22R1) and inhibiting the downstream activation of pro-inflammatory signaling pathways. In clinical trials, NNC109-0012 was administered via subcutaneous injection. Despite progressing to Phase 2 trials, the development of NNC109-0012 was terminated in 2014 following a strategic decision by Novo Nordisk to discontinue its research and development efforts in the field of inflammatory disorders.
