Overview

NNC6989-0001 is a long-acting, peptide-based glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonist developed by Novo Nordisk for the treatment of obesity. As an incretin mimetic, it targets the GIP receptor to modulate metabolic processes, including insulin secretion and potentially energy expenditure and appetite regulation. While GLP-1 receptor agonists are well-established in weight management, GIP receptor modulation is a key area of interest for enhancing weight loss, either as a monotherapy or in combination with other incretins. NNC6989-0001 is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials (such as NCT06144190) to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic profile in healthy adults with overweight or obesity.
