Overview

NNITC-2 is a novel naphthalimide derivative developed as a dual-action anti-tumor agent. It was designed by researchers at Penn State University by incorporating an isothiocyanate (ITC) functional group into the naphthalimide core, a modification intended to reduce the central nervous system (CNS) toxicity associated with its parent compound, mitonafide. NNITC-2 exerts its anti-cancer effects through the dual inhibition of DNA topoisomerase II and the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. In preclinical studies, it has demonstrated significant efficacy in inhibiting the proliferation of melanoma cells and reducing tumor growth by approximately 60% in vivo without apparent systemic toxicity.
