Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nomegestrol acetate + estradiol is a fixed-dose combination oral contraceptive containing nomegestrol acetate, a highly selective progestogen, and 17-beta estradiol, an estrogen identical to endogenous human estrogen. This combination is primarily used for contraception and menopausal hormone therapy. Nomegestrol acetate acts as a potent agonist of the progesterone receptor with anti-estrogenic activity and minimal androgenic, mineralocorticoid, or glucocorticoid effects. Estradiol provides the estrogenic component of the formulation. The drug inhibits ovulation and alters cervical secretions to prevent pregnancy. It is marketed as Zoely (for contraception) and Naemis (for menopausal hormone therapy), with approval in many countries since 2011[1][2][4][5][6]. Clinical studies show efficacy comparable to other combined oral contraceptives with favorable safety profiles[1][5].
