Nomraft

Nomraft is a generic raft-forming antacid formulation developed and manufactured by Acinom Healthcare. It is a combination product typically containing sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium carbonate. The primary mechanism of action involves the reaction of sodium alginate with gastric acid to form a thick, pH-neutral alginate gel, known as a 'raft,' which floats on the surface of the stomach contents. This raft serves as a physical barrier to prevent the reflux of acidic gastric contents into the esophagus. The sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate components react with stomach acid to release carbon dioxide, which becomes entrapped in the gel to provide buoyancy, while also providing a secondary antacid effect by neutralizing excess acid. Nomraft is indicated for the symptomatic relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, and acid indigestion.
