Non-Adjuvanted MCV-5 is a candidate polyvalent conjugate vaccine developed to prevent meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, Y, W, and X. Unlike currently licensed quadrivalent vaccines (which cover A, C, Y, W), this vaccine also targets serogroup X—a strain responsible for outbreaks in Africa and Europe for which no previous vaccine existed. The formulation consists of capsular polysaccharides from the five targeted serogroups conjugated to protein carriers (CRM197 and tetanus toxoid). The non-adjuvanted version does not include aluminum phosphate or other adjuvant substances. It is intended primarily for use in regions where all five serogroups are endemic or epidemic threats[4]. Clinical studies have focused on evaluating both safety and immunogenicity of adjuvanted versus non-adjuvanted formulations[2][4].
