A non-adjuvanted trivalent subunit influenza vaccine is an inactivated (killed virus) flu vaccine formulation containing purified surface antigens (hemagglutinin and neuraminidase) from three different strains of the influenza virus—typically two A strains and one B strain. Unlike adjuvanted vaccines, it does not contain any immune-boosting additives. The "subunit" designation means only specific viral proteins are included, reducing reactogenicity compared to whole-virus or split-virus vaccines. These vaccines are administered intramuscularly and are designed to induce protective antibody responses against circulating seasonal flu viruses. They are widely used for annual immunization of adults and children as a standard option when adjuvanted or high-dose formulations are not indicated or available[3][4].
