Overview

Non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid (NCHA) is a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan used in medical and cosmetic applications for its hydrating and tissue-repairing properties. Unlike cross-linked forms used as dermal fillers for structural support, NCHA retains its natural molecular weight and viscosity, resulting in rapid biodegradation after administration. Its primary mechanism is to bind and retain water within the extracellular matrix, improving skin hydration, elasticity, firmness, and radiance. NCHA is widely utilized as an injectable "skin booster" for bio-revitalization of aging or photoaged skin by stimulating fibroblasts and promoting neocollagenesis. It also finds use in ophthalmic surgery (as a lubricant), joint therapy (for osteoarthritis), treatment of tear trough-lower eyelid deformities, and management of vulvovaginal atrophy[1][2][3][5][7]. The product is typically derived from non-animal sources via bio-fermentation.
