Overview

Nona-L-arginine, also known as (Arg)9, nonaarginine, or polyarginine, is a synthetic cationic cell penetrating peptide (CPP) composed of nine L-arginine residues. It is primarily used as a cargo delivery system to facilitate the transport of various molecules—including proteins, peptides, and nucleic acids—across cellular membranes for research and potential therapeutic applications. Unlike some CPPs that directly traverse lipid bilayers, nona-L-arginine induces membrane multilamellarity and fusion to enter cells passively. This property makes it valuable in drug delivery systems and gene therapy research. Nona-L-arginine has also been investigated in clinical trials for its use in vascular grafts. Its mechanism involves modulating cellular uptake processes rather than targeting specific receptors or enzymes[1][2][3][6].
