Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NORDBIOTIC OSTEODUO is a probiotic dietary supplement developed by Nordic Biotic for the support of bone health and the prevention of osteoporosis, particularly in postmenopausal women. The formulation consists of two specific bacterial strains: Lactobacillus paracasei LPC100 (DSM 33793) and Lactobacillus plantarum LP140 (DSM 33804). It functions through the gut-bone axis, where the probiotic strains modulate the intestinal microbiota to enhance calcium absorption—potentially via the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs)—and reduce systemic inflammation that contributes to bone resorption. Clinical data from a 12-month randomized, double-blind trial in early postmenopausal women demonstrated that the supplement helps maintain bone mineral density (as measured by DEXA scans of the lumbar spine) and preserves vitamin D levels.
