Norfenefrine is a sympathomimetic small molecule drug used primarily for the treatment of hypotension (low blood pressure), especially in acute settings such as after surgery, spinal anesthesia, myocardial infarction, septicemia, and other conditions leading to low blood pressure. It acts predominantly as an α1‑adrenergic receptor agonist, causing vasoconstriction and increasing blood pressure. Norfenefrine is structurally related to norepinephrine and functions both as a medication and as an endogenous trace amine neurotransmitter in the brain. It is marketed in Europe, Japan, and Mexico under various brand names[1][4][5].
