Overview

Norleucine phosphonate is a synthetic small molecule analog of the amino acid norleucine, in which the carboxylic acid group is replaced by a phosphonic acid moiety. Its chemical formula is C5H14NO3P and it has a molecular weight of 167.14 g/mol[1][2][7]. Norleucine itself is an isomer of leucine and has been used as a probe in biochemical studies, but norleucine phosphonate represents a distinct compound with altered physicochemical properties due to the presence of the phosphonate group[6][7]. Norleucine phosphonates are generally considered as mimics or inhibitors in enzymology, particularly for enzymes that act on amino acids or peptides; however, there are no approved medical indications or clinical uses for this compound at present[1]. It remains an experimental molecule with no known mechanism of action established in humans.
