Normakor

Normakor is a multi-component cardioplegic solution developed by CardioSystemPharma, a subsidiary of the ChemRar Research and Development Institute, for myocardial protection during open-heart surgery. It is specifically designed for normothermic (warm) or moderately hypothermic blood cardioplegia, representing a shift from traditional cold cardioplegia techniques. The solution facilitates a reversible cardiac arrest while allowing the heart to maintain metabolic processes closer to physiological temperatures, which helps reduce reperfusion injury and complications associated with systemic cooling. Normakor is typically supplied as a kit containing concentrated electrolyte solutions (including sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium chlorides) and procaine, which are mixed with the patient's blood intraoperatively to induce and maintain cardiac standstill during the surgical procedure.
