Drug intelligence / Profile preview
0.9% physiological solution (normal saline) is an isotonic solution of sodium chloride in water, containing 9 g of NaCl per liter. It is widely used in clinical medicine for intravenous fluid replacement, electrolyte replenishment, and as a vehicle or diluent for the administration of other compatible drugs. In the context of the clinical trial NCT03715556, sponsored by the University of São Paulo General Hospital, it is used as an intravenous placebo (representing a 'liberal' heart rate control strategy) compared against amiodarone (a 'restrictive' strategy) in patients with sepsis and atrial fibrillation with high ventricular response.
