Overview

Normal yeast, typically referring to non-enriched *Saccharomyces cerevisiae*, is a single-celled fungus widely used as a dietary supplement and a common negative control in nutritional and pharmacological research. Unlike mineral-enriched variants such as high-chromium yeast, normal yeast does not contain elevated levels of specific trace elements and is used to establish a baseline for the effects of the yeast biomass itself. Yeast is naturally rich in proteins, B-complex vitamins, and dietary fibers. In metabolic studies, it serves as a comparator to isolate the pharmacological activity of added minerals or compounds from the background nutritional profile of the yeast vehicle.
