Normolyt

Normolyt is an oral rehydration solution (ORS) provided as a granulate for dissolution in water, primarily used to treat dehydration resulting from acute gastroenteritis, particularly in children. The product contains a balanced mixture of anhydrous glucose, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, and sodium citrate. Its mechanism of action relies on the sodium-glucose cotransporter 1 (SGLT1) in the intestinal mucosa; the presence of glucose facilitates the active transport of sodium, which in turn drives the osmotic absorption of water. Normolyt is marketed in several European countries, including Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, and has been the subject of Phase 4 clinical studies evaluating its acceptance and metabolic effects compared to other rehydration solutions.
